Amy Hartman has been practicing in the field of labor and employment law for her entire twenty year legal career. Prior to starting Hartman Employment Law Practice LLC, she was a partner at the law firms of Cooley Godward Kronish in Colorado and Seyfarth, Shaw in Chicago.


Amy’s practice started by holding a union election in a bus parked on the tarmac at O’Hare International Airport.  Amy’s diverse background spans the breadth of workplace law and ranges from negotiating with striking employees at a coal mine in Sheridan, Wyoming and conducting non-harassment training at midnight in a cement factory outside Atlanta, Georgia, to counseling employers on such diverse issues as theft of trade secrets to pets in the office to workplace romance gone wrong. From start up companies to Fortune 100 employers, there isn’t a workplace issue that Amy has not faced in her two decades of employment law practice.


Amy also has extensive litigation experience in all aspects of the employment relationship including claims of harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination, as well as non-solicitation/non-competition disputes arising from executive departures.  Amy has represented clients in federal and state courts throughout the United States, in arbitration proceedings and before a myriad of state and federal agencies.  She has also argued cases before numerous appellate courts.


Amy’s vast litigation background has served to enhance her ability to counsel employers and employees effectively in how to proactively manage sensitive situations and avoid litigation. Amy’s practice includes a significant focus on counseling companies on employment matters related to emerging companies, financing, mergers, acquisitions, restructuring and other transactions, and drafting documentation related to these transactions.


Approved as a trainer by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as part the conciliation of a class action discrimination case brought against a major U.S. manufacturer, Amy provides interactive training for managers and employees on preventing harassment in the workplace and a wide variety of workplace law issues. Amy also conducts ongoing seminars for human resources professionals on such diverse topics as ADA and FMLA compliance, blogging and the right to privacy in the workplace, and telecommuting and other virtual workplace issues. 


Amy is a member of the Colorado and Illinois state bars, as well as numerous federal judicial districts and appellate circuits. 


Amy earned her undergraduate and law degrees from Georgetown University.  Originally from New York City, Amy attended the acclaimed Bronx High School of Science.
